Whiskey River's Favorite Recipe for: Cowboy Butter


  • 1 stick unsalted butter (8 tablespoons, softened)
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard (optional: Dijon)
  • Juice from ½ a fresh lemon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika I love smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 tablespoon of horseradish
  • Salt and black pepper to taste


For Serving Sauce:

  1. Begin by melting the butter slowly in a pan.
  2. Carefully blend in the remaining ingredients until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Use it as a dipping sauce or drizzle it over your dish.

For Compound Butter:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl, then transfer the mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap.
  2. Mold the butter mixture into a log shape, approximately 1 inch in diameter, and wrap it securely in plastic.
  3. Refrigerate until firm, then slice and serve it over grilled meats or vegetables.
